The story of Balnacra Arts

I established BALNACRA POTTERY in 1997.
I had learnt some of basic pottery skills at Edinburgh Art College back in the mid 80's.

Running a business from home was an ideal way to combine work and raising three children myself in a remote rural location. The Pottery started at 'The by Gates', Balnacra at the railway gatekeepers cottage, a beautiful scenic location with plenty of passing trade.

With our unexpected & sudden eviction by the owners Railtrack, so that they could demolish the property, I had to relocate quickly.

A new custom made workshop was erected 25th Sept 2001 at the Lochcarron Smithy Heritage Centre.

sadly by 2005, various pressures meant I had to close the pottery, subletting the studio to Asgard Crafts.

For 18 months I worked as an Art/Media worker for the Skye & Lochalsh Young Carer Project and am still i
nvolved as a support worker.

I have been busy with a wide range of art projects, renamed Balnacra Pottery - Balnacra Arts, have ventured into animation, and co-organise The annual Highland International Comics Expo.

Painting has become the current focus of my work.
